1940 US Census Indexing is Complete!

We Did It!

The Parkcrest Ward Indexed 157,376 Records

We arbitrated 4623 Records

Grand Total:  161, 999 Records

Thanks to all who joined in the Indexing of the 1940 Census!

We really appreciate all the hours you spent in this great project.

Note from 1940 US Census Community Project… August 3, 2012

“We finished indexing and arbitrating the 1940 U.S. Census! And we did it in just 124 days. Fantastic! Thank you to every volunteer who contributed and did their very best to produce a high-quality index of the census for current and future generations to freely search.

It will take a few weeks to finish publishing the indexes for the remaining states. You can continue to watch the FamilySearch 1940 U.S. Census website to know when more states are made searchable name-by-name.

What's Next?

We're still working to make billions of additional records searchable for free online. Our next big indexing effort will focus on U.S. immigration and naturalization. To learn more, watch this video or visit the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization website.

To participate now, look for the US (Community Project) label on the Download Batch list. Check the Project Instructions and Field Help tabs within each batch to learn how to index the records accurately.”

We are nearing our Goal of 150,000 Names Indexed!

Our ward has indexed 34,420 names of the 1940 Census in July. That brings our total to 141,651. That leaves us 8349 names to do in the next 10 days to achieve our goal of 150,000 names. There isn’t too much time left to index the 1940 Census as it is 93.16% indexed. We have 53 Parkcrest Members indexing. It is not too late to start! There will always be records to index but indexing the 1940 Census has been a special project. This project is going to be completed 2 months ahead of the schedule that the church projected when we all began indexing.
Thanks to all who have spent many hours indexing records.  What a great accomplishment.

Dear Parkcrest Ward Members,

Our ward members have been busy Indexing the 1940 Census. So far this month we have indexed 17,221 records. Our total for April was 23,888. We have 40 ward members that are participating in Indexing the 1940 Census. Bishop Holt would love to have all of the ward members indexing at least 2 batches per week. A batch is 40 names. It is exciting to see the names of families listed on the 1940 Census. Many of them are waiting for living family members to locate their information and complete their temple work for them. We can help in this great family history project.

The Indexing of the 1940 Census is 35.2% complete. You can check out the progress of the Church’s indexing effort on this website. https://www.familysearch.org/1940census/ There are 6 states that have their indexing complete and you can now search them for your family members.

Please check the Indexing report list by the bishops office to be sure your indexing efforts are being recorded for our ward. Our Parkcrest Ward indexing blog has 2 videos to help you get started indexing as well as reports on our ward progress on our indexing efforts. http://parkcrestwardindexing.blogspot.com/

Please join us in our efforts to complete indexing of the 1940 Census.

Thank you for your indexing efforts! We really appreciate all you have done.

Pat and Judy Naughton

Thanks
for your indexing efforts! Our ward indexed 23,888+ records for the month of April. And 7,242+ for the first 5 days of May.

The Tribe of Reuben indexed 3879 names in Arpil and 2160 so far for May!

The Tribe of Ephriam/Manasah (Bro. Lambert) April - 9600 May - 2200

The reason for the + sign is that we have found a few indexers who are not showing up on our wards indexing report. Please check your name on the report by the Bishop’s office. If you are not on our ward report, you are probably not signed up as an indexer for the Parkcrest Ward.

Here is how to change your indexing profile so you will be on the report.
